Training Courses and Workshops

SEA-Guide Services is accredited to teach and certify certain DOT or USCG licenses. Come train side-by-side with Coast Guard instructors, Licensed Mariners, and local maritime professionals. Fee waivers are available, but limited. Call or email us to request a training fees waiver for yourself or your crew.

Juneau Newcomers Orientation (3-hr)

A crash course in Juneau attractions, history, flora/ fauna, geology, recreation, services, and more. This course is designed for new arrivals to Juneau, eager to explore! Includes a 2-hour guided road tour across all of Juneau

Small Boat Operator Skills
(1, 2, or 3 Day)

This hands-on training course is designed to build confidence in small boat maneuvers like docking and handling your boat in severe weather. Pilot your vessel like a pro, impress yourself, and more importantly, STOP DENTING YOUR BOAT! 

Liferafts and Crafts Workshop
(Coldwater Survival)

Students will learn skills to survive cold water environments, and safely assist other mariners during cold-water emergencies. The following Saturday, you will be provided the tools, knowledge, and crafters assistance in creating your very own drybag (or rain jacket) from the PVC materials salvaged from your recently deployed training life raft!

Boater's Bible Workshop
(Build an Emergency SOP)

Participants will draft and assemble emergency response SOPs, specific to their vessel (all materials and crafting tools provided). From predeparture inspections, to emergency response procedures for Fire, Man Overboard, and Flood Control, your 'Boat Bible' will maximize safety and minimize response time during an emergency.

Boater Safety Standards
(New Boaters)

This class provides boaters an orientation to Juneau's boating Laws, Resources, and Hazards. Required for students enrolled in Private Coaching, Boat Operator 1/2/3 Courses, and OPUV/ Masters Courses. If you are new to boating, this is your first step!

Tourinomics 101 (2-hr)

Gain insight into your clientele. Learn about visitor demographics, tourism authorities, passenger services, and simple solutions for keeping guests happy as a professional wildlife guide.

Marine Naturalist Certificate
(3-hour or 6-hour)

An in-depth look at Alaska's marine mammals, waterways, tidal effects and natural history. Classroom and field knowledge sharing as taught by experts and scientists

AMSEA Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor

Certified Emergency Drill Training by a licensed Alaska Marine Safety Education Association Instructor. Required for all commercial vessel crew operating 3+ miles seaward, and/or above 16 crewmembers

Private Captain Instruction

Get personalized coaching to compliment your skill-level. Private clients receive classroom and dockside instruction, along with reference materials. Students are required to attend the Alaska Boating Standards course prior to coaching. We guarantee noticeable improvement in your boat-handling skills
