Service Description
Participants will draft and assemble emergency response SOPs, specific to their vessel (all materials and crafting tools provided). The final "Boat Bible" will include: -Vessel Systems and Emergency Gear Inventory -Vessel Pre-trip Inspection Checklist -Vessel Startup and Shutdown Procedures -Passenger Safety Brief (required by law) -Suddenly in Command (SIC) Procedures -Vessel Maintenance Schedules -Engine Troubleshooting Guide -VHF Radio Use Instructions -Responding to Person Overboard -Responding to Fire Emergencies -Abandon Ship Procedures -Emergency Contacts and Information This course is designed to equip recreational boaters and commercial operators with a singular, on-hand, reference binder for all boating situations. Additionally, it will serve as a maintenance tracker, systems diagram, and an essential part of your legal obligation to provide a safety brief to all passengers. In the event of an emergency, an untrained passenger is able to open the 'Suddenly in Command' (SIC) laminate, and operate the vessel towards safety. The provided templates are designed to maximize efficiency and minimize response time during an emergency. Responding to marine emergencies is different for each vessel, dependent upon design, crew experience, available equipment, and personal preference. For this reason, participants will be required to provide detailed photos of their personally owned vessel. This ensures that SABER instructors can customize the SOP templates to your specific vessel design and layout. Participants are also encouraged to bring trailered vessels to our training location to allow SABER instructors to suggest edits to their emergency response plans. This workshop is best attended in conjunction with SABER's Marine Emergency Preparedness course. The emergency procedures listed in your templates are instructed in greater detail in the MEP course, but the Build a Boat Bible workshop does not train emergency response techniques.
